Just take a look at our process below and you’ll readily see why we should be your first call.

Step One: Material Selection

The first step is to determine the necessary number of drywall sheets for the job. Drywall comes in 4x8’, 4x10’, and 4x12’ sizes and is either 3/8” or ½” thick, so we will estimate the number of sheets needed based on the wall or ceiling we are working on. Many surfaces areas don’t naturally conform to the size of a drywall board, and in that case, we’ll cut the board to the appropriate size.

Another consideration is the type of sheetrock for the job. Different types of sheetrock have different properties. Some are fire-resistant, some are more durable than others, some are especially mold-resistant, etc. We’ll discuss your project with you to make an informed decision and get you the right materials the first time, saving you time and money in the long-run.

Step Two: Hanging the Drywall

Next, we hang the sheetrock on the ceiling using a lift or a small winch to raise the sheets to the appropriate height. We screw the ceiling sheets into the ceiling, and then hang the wall sheets, screwing them into the walls and ceiling of your property to durability and strength. Our Fayetteville drywall contractors use the appropriate screws depending on the construction of your house, for example, a house with wood studs requires W-screws to fasten the drywall to the studs. After all the necessary pieces of drywall have been installed, we move on to mudding & taping.

Step Three: Drywall Mudding & Taping

Mudding & taping drywall is the process of smoothing out the cracks and edges of the connected drywall boards to create a seamless finish. Mud is applied to the seams and cracks between the drywall sheets in order to fill the gaps. There are different types of mud for different situations, such as quick-drying mud, and muds specific to certain kinds of drywall.

After the first layer of mud, we then tape over the seams with drywall tape to create a seamless, uniform surface between the drywall sheets. After everything has been appropriately taped, we lay down another layer of mud alongside the first layer of mud and tape. This is to build the thickness of the wall around the seam so no cracks are visible. A third layer of mud is then applied to the entire seam with a large knife to ensure that the edges of the seam are invisible. This mud is usually a lightweight, all-purpose mud that fills any screw holes, and indents. We then leave the mud to completely dry before beginning the final step of the process.

Step Four: Finishing the Drywall Installation

At Fayetteville Drywall Pros, we aren’t satisfied until your drywall installation is perfect, so the last step of the process involves sanding your walls and ceilings to ensure a smooth finish. We first map out the walls to find uneven areas using a shop light, a straight edge, and a pencil to mark areas that need our attention. We then use a sander to sand down high spots until they are even with the wall, and we use finishing mud to elevate any low surfaces. We also apply a drywall sponge to corners, to ensure a smooth finish. After your wall is perfect we will apply a coat of paint or wallpaper to finish the look of your wall. As you can see, drywall installation is a complex process, but it’s one that you don’t have to worry about. Simply give the Fayetteville Drywall Pros a call for a free quote for your next project.
